I am an expat Brit, living in Malta for almost - gosh - 35 years now.... I studied in British art schools, but living in the Mediterranean has taught me more about light and colour than anything I could ever have learnt otherwise. I have been honoured to have worked alongside some great artists too.

    As Malta is so tiny it is very easy to make contacts and meet interesting people. I have been extremely lucky in the opportunites I have been given - to work on-site in the Hypogeum, the intriguing prehistoric underground temple, to paint every year at the Malta Jazz Festival, at dance performances and workshops, in the wonderful Manoel Theatre.....

    I regularly exhibit locally and have been proud to represent Malta in many countries abroad too.

    I work as a visual artist, mainly in water-based media. I find that this gives me fluidity and immediacy, which allows me to flow alongside the painting. I love to work from life; musicians, dancers, animals etc, as working at speed helps to bypass all processed thought and links me to the authentic essence of movement and expression. I work from the inside out, using 'reality' as a channel, hoping to become part of the subject on a pure level of vibration. Working with static subjects I use other methods to surprise myself and find that connection. Drawing is the thread that keeps me moving on; ccombining this with the abandon of unpredictable media never fails to excite and inspire me.

This quote from my exhibition 'Lifelines' seems to sum things up;

    "This collection seeks to show how the seemingly unrelated subjects and techniques of one artist are connected by good drawing, flowing into confident self-expression. How anatomical studies underlie the ability to capture fleeting imrpressions of figures in motion. How intense observation of the effects of light on flowers and still life informs the study of landscapes and the human figure. How all these elements can be combined to create rich and emotive abstracts."

    Currently I am working on several threads; one is a long-term project based around Malta's Prehistoric Temples, specifically the Hypogeum. It is very rich and emotive, exploring my feelings around sexuality, sensuality and what sparks inspiration. Those ancient stones seem to reverberate with similar questions to my own. Do they also hold the answers? Will I discover any secrets?

  Ongoing projects include a new series of studies from the nude and also some experiments out in the countryside. This year I look forward to working again at the annual Malta Arts Festival, classical concerts and dance productions as well as the Jazz Festival in mid-July, where I am now a well-known sight, painting furiously to capture the atmosphere of music and balmy Mediterranean evenings.

  Who could wish for more?
